Black-Owned Goodies

So, I was all ready to post about yesterday’s jog, when it occurred to me that because it’s spending season, I should help route dollars to folks who may need them the most, instead of yammering on about yesterday’s whimsy and rain. To that end,  I’ll share a bit about my patronage of  the following businesses:

  1. Spinster’s Shoppe – I got a nice iron here. Patronize the store through December 4th, and receive 25% of your purchase.
  2. CreateHer Stock Photography – Stock photography for women of color
  3.  Nyame Selassie Gangster to Guru – I’m not a fan of everybody’s writing, but I’ve become a fan of hers. Buying the book wasn’t in my plans, but after hearing some of Mama Nyame’s truth come through so eloquently (and devoid of fluff), I decided I had to have it.
  4. Swagg Boutique – Yes, I use watches. I wanted a Banneker watch, but the model I want has a big face, so it’s a no-go for me. In the meantime, I’ll make mighty good use of the watch I ordered from Swagg. The owner sells bras, too. I’ll definitely be back.
  5. Debbie Allen’s Hot Chocolate Nutcracker – I’ve never seen a Debbie Allen Production, so some of my students and I are treckin’ to Los Angeles for our inaugural viewing.
  6. Black&Sexy TV – Sometimes, the content doesn’t agree with me, so I order every few months. I wonder what they have goin’ on, now.

Businesses I plan to patronize, in the very near future:

  1.  Lovely Cloth – This woman makes cloth diapers and women’s panties. I don’t need the diapers (yet), but I do want those draw’s.
  2.  Negash Footwear– Finally, Negash develops some low-key designs, but they may not have my size. I have a health issue that makes my feet and ankles swell to high heaven. We’ll see how to make this work.
  3. Sidewayz Computer Repair and Sales – I’m looking to buy a refurbished computer. There’s a local organization, OTX West, that sells and freely distributes refurbished machines, but I’d like to buy from someone who doesn’t get as much exposure.
  4. Sankofa African Arts – In addition to art, clothing, and jewelry, soap (and much more) is sold here. I can do without the other stuff, but I need my soap, and this is where I get it.
  5. Kashmir VIII – Who was just thinkin’ about buying a 2017 calendar? Who just found an artist that produces calendars featuring renderings of popular sitcom characters?

Dig around a bit, and see what you find. I suggest:

Happy hunting,
Kenisha
