Mary Mary: Dirt (2008)

I’m so happy and proud I could burst wide open!

I just finished an online CBEST reading and writing prep session with a tutoring student. Originally, we tried to meet this Saturday past, but because somebody’s (read: my) back-up computer was Poltergeist-ridden, we decided to reschedule to today.

Well, we get the tech check out of the way, and I’m thinkin’ we’re ready to go, but we ain’t. Why? Because Chickadee (read: not I) hadn’t printed out the exam and hadn’t properly angled her camera. What was us gon’ do?

Well, long story a teeny bit shorter, between her suggestion that we use Google Docs, and her mumbling her processes as she worked, everything worked out just fine.

For most folks, this wouldn’t be a problem, but because things work differently in The Kenishasphere, finding cogent resolutions can be challenging. In fact, Chickadee (read: not I) stated that she was looking for solutions that would work for both of us, and she did just that. All the blessings to her! Had we left it to me, I don’t know what we would’ve done because I didn’t want to have to reschedule, lose more prep time, and charge this sweet baby for time that we were not going to get to fully use. (Yes, I’m serious about my calendar.) I was lookin’ around, tryin’ to figure out how to avoid becoming upset and annoyed because things were not going my way, and Chickadee (read: not I) was like: Let’s do this. So we did, and it was great. Crisis averted. Another student has been on-boarded.

It’s been difficult to see it and sift through it, but the “dirt” here is sort of some of the same dirt through which I’ve had to sift over the past year or so, the dirt that has challenged me to learn to shut the hell up for a minute and try to find solutions that work for everyone.

Anyway, I’m out. Enjoy, and think about your own dirt. Are you whinin’ about your smudged palms and inability to breathe, or are you enjoying the process of being seasoned by the grit?
