Ava Duvernay’s work on the new slavery, 13th, came to my attention three or four days ago. She’s here for us, and I’m here for it! Thanks, Ms. Ava, for usin’ your talents to help us –especially those of us committed to the notion that goin’ to jail simply happens because some people are bad– connect the dots.

Last but not least, Nate Parker’s labor of love hits theaters this week, too. Birth of a Nation premieres the same night as 13th, and I aim see both.

I missed the Toussaint biopic, but I’ll damned if I miss Nat! October 7th, it’s on.
