Product Review: Shrimp and Green Beans at Kingston 11
In all the time I’ve been in Oakland — well, really, in all the time this restaurant has been open; I got here, first — I’d never gotten a chance to sit and eat at Kingston 11, a Jamaican food restaurant. I’d been here, before, but there was no room. I’d gone another time, and they were out of everything, which isn’t a surprise since I arrived about an hour before they were to close. I’d been here, before, with my Spanish-speaking group, but I’d gotten there so late, and I was so upset (by something else) that I had neither time nor inclination to eat. This time, though, I was ready. I arrived on-time, I was of sound mind, and there was a seat for me, so I ordered, I ate, and I liked it.

The restaurant didn’t appear to be too busy, but what do I know? I had to flag down the wait staff a couple of times to get my check, to get the check paid, and to get a receipt.
Customer Service – 5
Folks were kind and attentive but not overbearing.

I could’ve ordered something a bit more conventionally Jamaican, but neither my pockets nor my stomach were in the mood.
The shrimp were fresh. I don’t even like fresh shrimp. I don’t. I like mine kind of old and pissy, which sounds gross, but that’s the truth. These shrimp — these fresh shrimp — were great. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear they’d been murdered 15 minutes before they hit my plate. The green beans were sauteed just right, and they were tasty. I’d never had such tasty green beans before, and I probably won’t, again.
Also, there was enough to share with others. Some folks seemed kind of shy, so I just went for what I knew. I was full, but you better best believe that I left nary a scrap behind.
Product Usability – 5
The shrimp and green beans were ordered a la carte, so they arrived on different platters. I just served myself from each.
As far as I know, there aren’t any other Jamaican restaurants in Oakland. There’s a Jamaican store, but not a restaurant. I guess I’ll have to get around to writing a review about it. For now, I’ll leave you with what I have.
That’s it. See ya’ next time.
