Grocery Store Review – Mandela Grocery Coop

Not once in 2020 did I darken the door of this black-owned grocery store. I think living in the Age of COVID-19 just threw me off-track, but I’m ready to refocus, and poppin’ into one of my favorite stores was a good way to start.

Anyway, Friday morning, I had a medical appointment in the neighborhood, and I just couldn’t be RIGHT down the dang street and not pop in, especially when there were some groceries I needed.

Purchase Process 5
The prices on all items are clearly labeled, so there were no surprises when I got to the register. Adriana, one of Mandela Grocery’s co-owners, had been busy fulfilling online orders, but she stopped what she was doing to help me at the register. After ringing my groceries and applying a customer loyalty discount, she scooted things to me so they’d be easier for me to grab and bag. I inserted my card into the slot, signed, chucked a deuce, then exited.

Customer Service 5
It was great. It always is.

When I walked through the door, I was greeted, but that was bound to happen because I always speak when I darken Mandela’s doors.

As mentioned before, Adriana tended to me immediately. As a matter of fact, a few minutes before ringin’ me up, she’d had to pause–in the middle of order filling–to get me some popcorn from the bulk bins.

This go round, I didn’t have any product questions, so there’s not a whole lot to report.

Product(s) 5
They were fresh. My bruised bananas probably betray that sentiment, but the bruising was my fault; I put my groceries through a lot between the grocery story and my appointment.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, nothing’s old. I’ve made an excuse to open dang near everything I’d purchased, and I have nary a complaint.

Product Usability 5
This couldn’t be anything but a five. I bought fresh groceries from a clean, well-lit, and well-organized store, then I opened ’em–most of ’em–and ate them. ‘Nough said.

Will I be goin’ back?

Yes.

Should you go, too?

That’s on you (but I’m hopin’ you do).

Until next time,
xKenisha
