Product Review: Pucker Up Lemon Cheesecake by Crumble & Whisk Patisserie

Sooooo, it was Sunday, and I wanted cheesecake. I could’ve walked to my local supermarket and bought a not-so-tasty one, produced by a popular international chain, but I wanted something more substantial. I performed an online search for cheesecakes in Oakland, and up popped Crumble & Whisk. I’d bought from this business before, so I was a excited when I realized C&W would be at the Jack London Farmer’s Market for Eat Real. I couldn’t wait to throw on some clothes and get my behind down to the water. I intended to get one of those cheesecakes, and that’s ex-ac-ta-ly what I did.

The picture’s blurry, and — yes — I carried my own fork with me.

Purchase Process – 5
The prices are clearly posted. I chose what I wanted, and I don’t remember if I paid cash or paid by card. Either way, I don’t remember there being a bunch of hullabaloo about me trying to buy what I wanted.

Customer Service – 5
The chef is kind. He and his assistant are down to earth and ready to answer questions, but they are still about business. I like that. They were cool about me invading their space to get in an extra shot of the cheesecake.

To know me is to know that I love the bitterness of lemons, and the lemony flavor of this lemon cheesecake is perfect. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, and the lemon is ubiquitous and potent. I think the lemon custard plays a role in that. Did I mention the buttery shortbread crust? It’s so good. Not since a certain chef moved-on from Gregory’s Gourmet Desserts (taking her vegan lemon square recipe with her) have I had the urge to bust out a Lench Mob “Boom! Ping! Pinnng!”. Crumble & Whisk’s Pucker Up Lemon Cheesecake had me doin’ just that. Hell, I do it every time I think about it.

Product Usability – 5
This dessert fits into the container just right. It’s not so big that it can’t be easily held and eaten while in motion, and it’s not so small that I had to worry about my fork fallin’ out of the container while I bopped down Broadway.

Be warned: the texture of this cheesecake is soft and smooth. Would I buy from this vendor again? Yep! I like a firmer texture, but that’s not ever going to stop me from buying again from Crumble & Whisk.

That’s it. See ya’ next time.
